The Iron Bridge is the first major bridge in the world to be created from cast iron and is considered a symbol of the Industrial Revolution. The well-loved bridge in Telford, Shropshire, continues to draw visitors from around the world who come to admire the impressive historical icon.

Built across the River Severn in 1779, walk along the impressive structure while you take in luscious views of the surrounding Ironbridge Gorge, now a World Heritage Site.

This pioneering bridge was a turning point in British design and engineering. Following its unveiling, cast iron came to be widely used in bridges, aqueducts and buildings around the world.

Since this video was published, a major conservation project sought to repair the Iron Bridge to secure its future for new generations to enjoy. The restored bridge reopened in January 2019.
